Art begets art. Read great literature. Stare at your favorite paintings and photographs. If either of those get old (even if they don’t), prime the pump with music that moves you. Choose from various sources and styles—grunge, ballads, rock, jazz, cultural music, classical …. Close your eyes and allow the scenes and characters to emerge. When you find something with a hint of story, pause and begin writing. Should you decide to develop the idea, you can return to your siren and continue to let the music inspire you.
